Research firm notes CGI’s industry focus areas of defense, healthcare and public administration

More federal, state and local governments are leveraging cloud to improve their digital service delivery, create shared platforms to power a single view of government and increase trust by improving data security and privacy. As a trusted partner on numerous government initiatives using cloud solutions, CGI is honored to be recognized as a Notable Vendor in Forrester’s The Public Sector Industry Cloud Landscape, Q3 2023 in the large vendor category across our North American, Europe Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific operations. The Forrester research cited CGI as having an industry focus in the areas of defense, healthcare and public administration.

According to Forrester, “Public sector industry clouds extend back-office digital operations platforms to enable a variety of use cases that are the unique purview of government. Importantly, these solutions are available on infrastructure that supports regulatory compliance requirements through confidential computing to address emerging trust-driven issues of digital, data, and identity sovereignty.”

Extended use cases

The research noted CGI selected the extended use cases in the areas of social services and emergency response for which our clients select us. We also help public sector clients implement cloud solutions to improve citizen experiences, financial management and mission-critical preparedness, and protect human health and the environment. As an example, to improve the scalability, reliability and availability of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Central Data Exchange (CDX), CGI analyzed dozens of CDX services and applications, then moved the future state portfolio to the cloud. Employing platform-as-a-service and cloud-native capabilities, the new CDX architecture provides a modern foundation for continued collection and publication of critical environmental regulatory data. Growth in cloud usage

Public sector organizations are using cloud services for a growing number of programs to accelerate their digital transformation. This trend is reflected CGI’s global Voice of Our Clients research, where 66% of government executives say they currently use cloud-based solutions for their own organization or to support customers, up slightly from 2022 (65%). Additionally, while 19% have migrated more than 20% of their total application portfolio to a cloud provider for infrastructure as a service (IaaS) or platform as a service (PaaS), 40% plan to do so over the next 2 years. When it comes to using software as a service (SaaS), 16% have migrated more than 20% of their applications, and 29% say they will over the next 2 years.

Government organizations increasingly look to CGI for effective ways to use technology and data to improve citizen experiences, increase transparency and ensure data security and privacy, among key objectives. According to the Forrester report, such demands are “driving public sector organizations to look for new solutions or modernize existing systems to meet these constantly evolving needs. This dynamic has accelerated the emergence of public sector industry clouds as traditional vendors rush to expand their functionality and hyperscalers enter a growing market via specialization of their existing platforms.”

At CGI, we help clients accelerate and future-proof their digital journey through more strategic use of the cloud. This includes collaborating to develop living cloud strategies that adapt to constantly changing business realities. It also includes a smart, accelerated modernization approach that goes beyond lift and shift, encompassing foundations, data and core systems, in addition to the application portfolio.
