- What does the selection process look like?
-
Our Talent Acquisition team will review your application first. Shortlisted candidates will receive a response from a recruiter. You’ll then have an interview with a hiring manager or technical team manager. Your recruiter will serve as your point of contact at all stages of the process. Please note that CGI will only contact candidates selected for an interview.
- What does an interview at CGI involve?
-
CGI’s interview process is designed to thoroughly assess candidates’ skills and their fit with our professional environment. Our approach generally involves two key stages:
- The first stage is the prequalification interview conducted by the recruiter. During this stage, we discuss the candidate’s career path, general skills and qualifications. The aim is to assess whether the candidate’s profile matches the basic criteria of the position.
- The second stage is the technical interview conducted by a manager or technical expert. This is an important step in the process, enabling us to focus specifically on the technical skills required for the position. This may involve in-depth discussions of past projects and technical challenges that have been overcome, as well as practical tests to assess the candidate’s technical knowledge.
- Who can I contact to find out the status of my application?
-
If you’ve already started the interview process, you can contact your recruiter for any information you may require. Please note that CGI will only contact candidates selected for an interview.
Work permit process
- When does the work permit process begin?
-
The work permit process formally begins once the offer from CGI has been signed. Prior to this stage, an analysis of your immigration file will take place and a background check will be carried out once we have received your consent.
- Who will handle my work permit application?
-
The process will be handled by a law firm retained by CGI that specializes in the immigration process.
- Will CGI handle the immigration process for my dependents?
-
Yes, CGI will obtain a closed work permit for you, the principal applicant, and an open permit for your spouse, authorizing them to work in Canada for any employer. Visitor records and/or study permits will also be issued for any primary or secondary school-aged children. Children at college or university level must apply directly to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
- What are the terms and conditions of the closed work permit?
-
A closed work permit grants eligibility to work in Canada for a period of 3 years. Under this permit, the newcomer may not work for any employer other than CGI. Members holding this type of permit are required to abide by the conditions stated on their permit, including the specified workplace.
- Does CGI handle the immigration process for other members of my family, such as my parents or siblings?
-
No, CGI only handles applications for the prospective member, their spouse and their primary and secondary school-aged children.
- What are the immigration costs covered by CGI?
-
CGI covers the administrative and government fees associated with obtaining a work permit for the principal applicant and their family. However, applications for dependents must be made at the same time as the principal applicant’s initial application.
- How long does it take to obtain a work permit?
-
Times vary depending on the nationality of the principal applicant and their dependents, as well as their place of residence. On average, the process takes between 3 and 12 months. These timelines are estimated by the immigration law firm at the start of the process.
- What kind of support is offered for my integration in Canada?
-
For most locations where CGI operates, an online relocation service is offered to candidates and their families. Some cities also offer more personalized support through local organizations. This information can be obtained through your immigration coordinator. CGI will also assign you a support person as soon as you arrive in Canada to answer any questions you may have.
