CGI organized blood donation drives across its offices in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai in India. More than 200 CGI professionals volunteered to donate blood. The blood units collected from these drives will be used to treat children with thalassemia – a rare genetic disorder that affects the body’s ability to produce hemoglobin.
These drives were conducted in collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Thalassemia Sickle Cell Society in Hyderabad and Sankalp India Foundation in the rest of the cities. As patients with thalassemia require frequent blood transfusions, the necessary treatment and care could be a financial constraint, especially for patients from underprivileged backgrounds.
With the active participation of our professionals, CGI is proud to support the NGOs’ vision of providing care and treatment to patients irrespective of their financial status. Our professionals in Bengaluru also got the opportunity to host some of these children and their families at our office. Recognizing our contribution, the Hyderabad-based NGO felicitated CGI during their silver jubilee celebrations.
We also collaborated with DKMS BMST Foundation India, a non-profit organization that fights against blood cancer and other blood disorders, to raise awareness of stem cell donation. Stem cells help treat people with a wide range of blood cancers and disorders. Our professionals took a pledge to donate their blood stem cells, supporting a lifesaving treatment for people with blood cancers and disorders.
Our commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work is a fundamental part of the CGI culture. Through such initiatives, not only do we strengthen this commitment but also provide opportunities for our professionals to have meaningful experiences by encouraging them to give back to our communities.
