At CGI in the UK, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy. We have implemented various measures to monitor and improve our energy efficiency across our operations, and we have invested in renewable energy sources to power our offices. One of our flagship projects is the installation of the largest solar panel system on a commercial building in Wales at our Waterton office, which generates 390KWP of clean electricity. This is a testament to our sustainability vision and our contribution to the global energy transition.
We believe that the energy transition is not only a necessity but also an opportunity for society and the economy. It requires a massive investment of $150 trillion by 2050, and a collaboration of all stakeholders to achieve the emissions reduction targets by 2030. The energy transition involves expanding renewables, increasing energy efficiency, strengthening the grids, bridging existing infrastructure, and securing the supply chains and materials needed for the new energy system.
One of our main objectives is to switch to an electricity system that runs entirely on zero-carbon sources by 2050, as the UK has committed to. We expect that renewable energy will provide most of this electricity. Our UK sites, such as offices and data centres, are already using renewable energy for 98% of their electricity needs, which helps us move towards net zero and our goal of making all our UK sites run on 100% renewable electricity by 2025. We are doing well against our scope 1 and 2 emissions and on track to reach our goal sooner than 2025. By using renewable energy, we also contribute to the green economy transition. Our sustainability performance has improved as shown by our Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) ratings. We aim for continuous improvement instead of setting new goals all the time.
As a leading IT and business consulting firm, we have a central role to play in enabling and accelerating this transition. We can help our clients and partners adopt innovative solutions and technologies that support their decarbonisation goals, and we can also help them communicate the benefits and challenges of the energy transition to their stakeholders. We believe that the energy transition should be fair and inclusive, ensuring that no one is left behind and that the social and economic outcomes are positive for everyone.
