CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB) has today announced it will receive £3.2million in funding from the Welsh Government to help support the creation of 620 new jobs over the next five years. The new roles will be based in the local authority area of Bridgend County Borough, South Wales where CGI currently employs around 900 people and is the largest IT employer in South Wales.

CGI delivers a range of outsourcing, application services and infrastructure services to clients across the UK from South Wales. The funding will aid with CGI’s growth plans in developing new solutions based on Secure Government and Commercial Cloud technology, development of its new Security Operations Centre and expanding its current service desk and support teams. CGI will also be introducing a new testing service for delivery of products and services, as well as continuing its work to develop mobility solutions, healthcare and smart metering technology.

The 620 jobs created by the funding will include a variety of entry-level and skilled roles including:

  • Service desk analysts
  • Technical design architects
  • Project management
  • Security specialists
  • Network engineers

CGI is recognised by the Welsh Government as an important contributor to the continued economic development of Wales. In July, CGI was awarded Anchor Company status and received significant funding from the Welsh Government’s Skills Growth Wales programme, to assist in the continued development of CGI’s skilled workforce in Wales. The funding is being used to train new employees and up-skill current members.

CGI’s Waterton based Service Desk is recognised for its extremely high levels of client service. It has received 5 star accreditation from the Service Desk Institute, the first 5 star to be awarded in the world. The Waterton Service Desk was also named Best Outsourced Contact Centre at the Welsh Contact Centre Forum Awards in February 2014.
