CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) has opened a state-of-the-art UK Security Operations Centre (SOC) in South Wales to provide 24/7, real-time protective monitoring for clients’ in-house and cloud-based systems. In addition, its new cyber security centre in Reading will provide clients with an advanced threat investigation service.
The SOC is CGI’s first in the UK and is among 10 SOCs that CGI operates globally. These centres handle in excess of 74 million cyber events each day on behalf of clients. Through the SOC, data will be collected from a wide range of sources, including intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, firewalls and web application firewalls, anti-virus systems, in-house systems, and applications running within the cloud. The SOC will provide clients with real-time alerts of both internal and external threats, allowing immediate action to be taken to protect important systems and data.
CGI’s new cyber security centre in Reading will operate in unison with the SOC to investigate and respond to more complex, advanced cyber security threats. It will provide proactive support by combining techniques such as network behavioural analysis, data mining, malware, and packet analysis with information collected through digital forensics and threat intelligence monitoring.
“Increasingly, clients are becoming more sensitive with respect to where their security data is collected, analysed and stored for privacy, legal and regulatory reasons,” said Andrew Rogoyski, UK head of cyber security services for CGI. “Our new SOC enables a broad range of network devices and company data to be monitored in real time. Empowered with this information, our highly trained security analysts can observe, investigate, prevent and remediate both internal and external threats.”
“Cyber security threats are increasingly global and more sophisticated,” said John Proctor, vice president of global cyber security services for CGI. “Our protective monitoring and advanced threat investigation services in the UK will further strengthen the security protection we offer our clients globally. With our international team of specialists and extensive capabilities, clients in the UK and across the globe can be confident their operations are secure.”
Operating at Business Impact Level 3 under UK security standards, CGI’s UK SOC enables clients to meet their regulatory requirements for security monitoring. The SOC’s services comply with the UK’s protective monitoring guideline Good Practice Guide No. 13 (GPG13), industry regulations for payment card security standards (PCI-DSS), and the ISO27001/2 series of security standards.
