CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) today announced thesigning of a £75 million contract with Smart DCC Limited to become the Data Service Provider for the Data Communications Company (DCC). The eight year agreement will see CGI develop and operate the solution that will link gas and electricity meters with the business systems of utility companies needed to deliver the £18.8 billon of consumer, economic and environmental gross benefits of smart metering.
CGI will design, build, implement, host, run and support the delivery of DCC Data Services at the heart of Britain’s Smart Metering Implementation Programme. The services provided by CGI will support the 53 million smart meters that will be deployed in people’s homes and small business between 2015 and 2020.The secure service will enable utilities to access information on energy usage to provide accurate bills, provide their consumers with the tariffs that best suit their lifestyles and enable their customers to better understand their energy use patterns. The solution will be scalable and flexible to enable the DCC to respond to Britain’s evolving energy needs.

This contract builds on CGI’s experience of delivering smart metering data services based on its Instant Energy solution to eight utilities operating in the British market and over 30 years of working with the utilities sector, including building and running ten of the sixteen central energy market solutions currently in operation around the globe.
The service will be delivered by CGI which will provide support to the DCC from its shared services centres in South Wales including its award winning 5 star service desk*.
