Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) requires a radical change to the way we settle electricity consumption in Britain; settlement based on one or two manual readings per year is set to be replaced, with daily collection of half-hourly data from millions of smart-enabled customers.

MHHS will help pave the way for a more flexible energy system, to maximise our use of renewables and network capacity to meet the country’s net zero goals.

The move to half-hourly settlement will stimulate a host of innovative tariffs and services to allow customers to maximise the value of flexibility in consumption.  But the impact of MHHS extends way beyond electricity suppliers and will result in an explosion in data volumes, as well as new opportunities for distributors, metering agents and consumers.
