London, United Kingdom, 25 May 2018

CGI and MOSL are delighted to have won the Alliancing and Partnership Initiative at the 2018 Water Industry Awards for the Central Market Operating System (CMOS) that enables the English competitive non-household retail water market.

The opening of the new market means that 1.2 million business customers, from the smallest charities to the largest public authorities, are now able to choose their retailer of water and wastewater services. As well as being able to choose the best deal to suit them, customers will reap benefits in the form of water efficiency and cost savings, improved customer services and new and innovative service offerings.

The market opened successfully on 1 April 2017. CMOS now supports the operation of the market, and stores the essential data defining all supply points in the market and facilitates the switching of supply points between retailers. In addition, CMOS calculates charges due between retailers and wholesalers based on water consumption. Every day CMOS processes on average 85,000 transactions made by more than 3,600 (active) system users from 64 different organisations.

Chris Scoggins, chief executive at MOSL said: “It is an honour to accept this award, which acknowledges the contribution of MOSL and CGI, as part of the wider industry effort, to open the largest water retail market in the world. As the market grows and evolves, we look forward to working collaboratively across the sector to make the market the best it can be.”

Paul Buxton, vice president of utilities at CGI in the UK said: “CGI has helped open new markets in utilities across the world, and we are proud to have worked with MOSL to build the systems underpinning this new water market. The timescales were incredibly tight, the requirements complex and the number of stakeholders large, but by adopting a truly collaborative approach we all made sure that the market opened on time.”
