CGI and Arts & Business Cymru have teamed up with Engage Cymru to support a fantastic new creative art project for older people in Llanelli.
At CGI, we understand the role we must play in contributing to a socially responsible society and we're committed to supporting the local communities where we live and work. This project was about improving access to opportunities and tackling loneliness for a disadvantaged group of people - helping elderly participants get involved with digital technology, tap into their creativity, and connect with others in a fun, hands-on way.
A series of four exciting workshops were held in collaboration with Llanelli Library and local artist Sheree Murphy. As a talented photographer and digital artist from Swansea, Sheree has a fantastic background working with older adults and delivering wellbeing projects, making her the perfect person to lead the sessions.
The workshops included:
- Discovering local history: Locals had the chance to explore Llanelli’s fascinating history with support from library staff. It was a great way to learn something new while having a bit of a social get-together.
- Trying out digital tools: In the library’s MakerSpace, everyone got hands-on with some cutting-edge tech, including 3D printers, a digital embroidery machine, virtual reality sets, and digital engraving tools. It was all about experimenting and having fun with new technology.
During the sessions, participants also improved their smartphone photography skills, with Sheree offering tips and ideas to help them capture their creative vision. Their work was shared online via email and social media, helping everyone stay connected.
This project gave older people in Llanelli a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, express their creativity, and meet new friends in a fun and supportive environment.
