Frequently asked questions
At this exciting stage of your job search, it’s likely you’ll have plenty of questions. We have tried to answer some of the
common ones here.
- Do I need to apply for CGI’s apprenticeship programmes via UCAS?
-
No, our apprenticeship application process is independent of UCAS. This means you can apply to UCAS as well as submitting your apprenticeship application to CGI without it taking up any of your UCAS options!
- Will I miss out on the social side of going to university?
-
No but there are some differences in the social life of an apprentice versus full-time university students. Unlike full-time students our apprentices will use their weekends to socialise and they take advantage of CGI’s Sports and Social club to get lots of discounts on a whole range of events. Our apprentices form a very strong friendship group and do a lot together socially and because they earn a salary, they can afford it!
If you would like to speak to a current apprentice at CGI, please get in touch with us.
- What additional training will I get?
-
All apprentices attend CGI’s early careers induction upon joining the company where you learn more about the company and how to make the most out of the learning opportunities available to you. You’ll also have an induction with your apprenticeship provider to ensure you have access to all of the information you need ahead of starting your course.
Your manager and colleagues will ensure that you have all the "on the job" training you need and in addition, you’ll have access to a wealth of training through our e-learning system as well as some classroom based courses.
- I'd need to move away from home to join the apprenticeship. What support do you offer?
-
Many of our current apprentices have moved away from home and CGI will cover up to £1,000 of relocation costs if you live outside of a reasonable travel distance. We have created relocation guides and our relocation team are also available to answer any queries you may have.
- How does the assessment process work?
-
Please see our application process section for more details.
- What happens if I fail a module on the apprenticeship?
-
While we look for the commitment to work hard and balance work and study, we know this is a big step and that it may take some time to settle in. Regular contact with your tutors and your networks at CGI will make sure you have the support that you need on our apprenticeships. We treat each person individually, and will work closely with you so you have all the support you need.
- Am I guaranteed a job at the end of the apprenticeship?
-
Our apprentices are employed as permanent employees and therefore you will continue to be employed by CGI as long as you complete the apprenticeship successfully and meet our expectations.
- Do you accept applications from people who need a work permit?
-
We welcome applications from anyone who is legally entitled to work in the UK without restrictions. We regret that due to current Home Office guidelines we’re unable to sponsor work permits for apprenticeship positions.
Due to UK Government security requirements we are only able to accept applications for some positions from candidates who have the unrestricted right to live and work in the United Kingdom and have lived in the United Kingdom for a minimum of 5 years with no breaks of 28 days or more. Please contact us if you have any queries.
- If I’m successful, when will I start work?
-
The latest information will be available on the job advert but apprentices generally join CGI in September to align with the academic year.
- What is the dress code like at CGI?
-
As a general rule we wear business attire. However, this depends where you're based and what you're doing. We’ll be able to give you more information if you’re offered a position but for interviews, you should always dress smartly.
- Is there a closing date for applications?
-
We open for applications each September and continue accepting applications until we have filled our available vacancies. Therefore, we would recommend applying as early as possible so that we have the most amount of vacancies available.
- How do I apply?
-
You can apply to open positions via the careers search on our website. Good luck!
