CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) is pleased to announce the deployment of a new core software platform into GMO NI, the new gas market operator for Northern Ireland. The software application, GTMS Delphi (based on CGI’s in-house Prodis software), is being used by the Gas Market Operator for Northern Ireland (GMO NI) to carry out commercial operations.
GMO NI became the sole interface for the Northern Irish gas market in October 2017. Four Transmission System Operators (TSOs) deliver gas to different parts of Northern Ireland, and until now, gas shippers had to deal with each individually. GMO NI now provides a single point of contact for all commercial activities of the TSOs.
The TSOs looked to CGI to provide a software application to support GMO NI’s core business processes. Based on the new single NI Network Gas Transmission Code, the Java-based web application models GMO NI’s contractual, business and financial rules, enabling them and their clients to manage the flow of gas into and across Northern Ireland. Where possible existing software developed for Gas Networks Ireland (GNI), the TSO in the Republic of Ireland has been re-used.
GTMS Delphi schedules gas flows and calculates the quantities delivered to each shipper contract, with monthly charges invoiced to each shipper based on the calculations. Commercial market rules are complex, but CGI used its many years of experience to accurately implement the calculations with the full auditability required for financial transactions.
Matthew Grisoni, Vice President, Oil and Gas, UK said: “This pioneering new project relies upon a combination of highly skilled systems analysis and design as well as large-scale software development. We’re extremely proud that CGI’s proprietary software now handles all gas delivered to wholesale customers on the island of Ireland, north and south of the border. We look forward to playing a key role in the evolution of the market, especially in view of European regulations which are continually revised.”
Mark Raphael, General Manager of GMO NI said: “We are delighted with the new GTMS Delphi IT system. User feedback has been excellent as the system has simplified operations for both the internal staff at GMO NI and its external shippers, for whom the main benefit is utilising a single IT system for managing all their NI gas transmission activities along with providing reduced invoicing complexity. In addition, we are very impressed with the professionalism and efficiency with which CGI delivered the project, as even though the timescales were aggressive CGI delivered the solution on time and on budget.”
