CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) has announced the launch of its DCC Adapter SaaS platform. The platform enables Data Communications Company (DCC) users to receive a high performance, turn-key, out-of-the-box solution for integrating with the DCC platform, reducing cost and risk, and increasing security assurance.
While integration has presented some challenges for utility businesses in the past, this new service will allow companies to integrate industry best-practice process for managing their smart portfolio and establish DCC communication from scratch. The components of the new offering have consistently proven to be the most credible, scalable and referenceable solutions on the market.
CGI’s DCC Adapter SaaS platform makes use of CGI’s DCC Adapter solution, used by five of the traditional ‘big-six‘ suppliers to ensure they meet Smart Energy Code (SEC) security-related obligations and handle the technical requirements for communication with the DCC User Gateway.
The platform also uses CGI’s Business Service Layer (BSL) solution. Acting as the interface to the platform, it provides a suite of out-of-the-box APIs that enable DCC users to initiate complex smart-meter processes such as installation, commission and change of supply via a single, simplified message. The BSL is currently used by British Gas to integrate its core systems with the CGI DCC Adapter.
Paul Buxton, Senior Vice President, Consulting Services at CGI in the UK, said: “Today’s announcement means that CGI now has the ability to provide a standard SaaS offering to other UK energy suppliers. It is our goal to ensure we better unify the smart meter industry, by providing a single service that all suppliers will have access to. We are excited as we start this new chapter of providing DCC users with an excellent service that will help reduce integration cost and risk whilst increasing security assurance.”
Sharon Johnson, Portfolio Director, Energy at British Gas, said: “We have been working with CGI since the start of our smart metering journey. Together we have designed, developed and implemented a high performing smart meter business orchestration solution which has enabled us to become the market leader in smart metering. This includes being the first supplier to get both SMETS 1 and SMETS 2 meters deployed into consumers’ homes and having the largest number of smart meters installed to date. Throughout this journey, we have had access to their experts around technology and their specific subject matter expertise.”
