Rich has over 30 years’ experience in the utilities sector. His focus is the role of “digitalisation” in delivering the energy transition and energy’s role in accelerating climate action. He is a professional engineer by background and has spent his career working with organisations to implement transformational change.
He is active in the leadership of a number of industry associations and advisory boards. These include chairing techUK’s Smart Energy and Utilities board, the Council of the Digital Policy Alliance, the Open Energy Steering Group and he was a member of the Each Home Counts Implementation Board, tasked with delivering BEIS’s Bonfield Review recommendations on energy efficiency where he chaired the Data Ethics group.
Rich is a regular speaker at utility events and the author of numerous white papers and articles. These include Beyond Smart – Generating the demand-side flexibility opportunity for British energy white paper, which was cited in the Climate Change Committee’s report on ‘Behaviour change, public engagement and net zero’; and the ever popular Energy Flexibility For Dummies and DSO For Dummies books. Rich is also the driving force behind CGI’s research on energy flexibility and pathways for net zero in collaboration with Utility Week.
Outside work, Rich is passionate about sport and coaches rugby. Fortunately, those activities involve his children!
