Fairfax, Virginia, May 24, 2011

The Federal Health Architecture (FHA), under management of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) in the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has awarded CGI Federal Inc. (CGI), a wholly-owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group, Inc. (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A), a one base year contract worth US$5.7 million. The contract includes four one-year options that can be executed to support FHA’s CONNECT Nationwide Health Information Exchange (NHIE) Gateway Solution.

CONNECT is the most widely adopted open source gateway used by public and private entities to exchange health information in a secure, interoperable manner. CGI will partner with FHA and strategic partners, such as Red Hat, to build and develop CONNECT into a robust open source solution that supports secure, standards-based health information exchange and “meaningful use” of health information technology.

“CGI is proud to expand our partnership with FHA to support their vision of furthering the exchange of health information to improve healthcare quality for the nation,” said Cheryl Campbell, Senior Vice-President, CGI. “Our open source vision, comprehensive product roadmap, and partnerships for CONNECT will help ease its adoption by federal agencies, public and private health information exchanges, and other healthcare organizations wishing to participate in health information exchange.”

CGI’s work for FHA supports the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) of 2009 which sets forth a plan for advancing the appropriate use of health information technology to improve quality of care and establish a foundation for health care reform. CGI’s solution is also designed to support federal agency health information exchange initiatives, including those by the Department of Defense, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
