CGI and Turku Energia, a leading power supplier in south western Finland, have announced that CGI will help the energy company modernize its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system using CGI’s cloud and systems integration services. CGI will deploy the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations cloud solution to help the company improve the efficiency of financial management, automate processes and reduce manual operations, and modernize project management and procurement. CGI’s comprehensive cloud approach addresses security and data protection at every stage of the journey.
“Our old systems are becoming outdated, and our needs have shifted focus. We looked for an agile system that could help us achieve Turku Energia’s strategic business objectives, increase the transparency of our daily operations and improve our operating models. The new ERP system also gives senior management a better understanding of the company’s actual financial situation, allowing us to make decisions based on up-to-date data,” says Anne Märri, CFO at Turku Energia.
Switching from local servers to the Dynamics 365 platform built on Microsoft’s Azure cloud offers a number of benefits in terms of both usability and security. Going forward, the solution’s Software as a Service (SaaS) model and browser-based user interface will allow users to access the system across devices from anywhere and at any time. In addition, cloud automation ensures that the automatic backup of databases and possible hardware failures will not disrupt Turku Energia’s operations.
“The key advantages of this type of cloud-based ERP are securing business continuity and ensuring that the solution is up-to-date throughout its life cycle. No separate hardware or software investments or massive upgrade projects are needed as the system is updated regularly. CGI has a readymade concept for configuring the cloud ERP´s finance tools to accelerate deployment, which speeds up the project and reduces the need for the company’s’ own work,” says Jarko Laine, Vice-President, Microsoft Dynamics Services at CGI Finland.
CGI serves more than 300 customers in the energy, water and waste water management sectors in Finland and has implemented similar solutions for other Finnish utilities including Elenia, Lahti Energia and Lappeenranta Energia. CGI also is designing and building the core DataHub solution for the Finnish electricity retail market that will be launched in 2021.
