Improving attendance forecasting
A professional sports organization in the U.S. needed more accurate predictive processes to improve the accuracy of home-game attendance forecasting. As a result, CGI developed and implemented two models to improve attendance forecasting and identify the factors that influence purchased tickets to go unscanned.
In partnership with Google, the CGI team utilized machine learning and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to give the organization better insights into ticket sales, actual attendance, timelines and more.
As a result, the team delivered a more accurate attendance prediction model and insights into pricing optimization methods. Additionally, the client realized opportunity and value through the delivery of the following:
- Exploratory data analysis and advanced analytic results read-outs to better understand their data from a data science perspective
- New variables created through feature engineering, which played a large part in the model’s improved performance
- A near-real-time tickets sold and attendance prediction model
- Education about pricing optimization methods
GCP was also used as the analytics platform to explore and transform the data and served as a machine learning workbench for model development and deployment. CGI leveraged other Google resources such as the platform-as-a-service serverless data warehouse BigQuery and the machine learning platform Vertex AI.
While the client organization utilized these platforms to develop more predictive ticket sales and attendance, this type of enterprise AI at scale can be used across industries to decrease costs, increase profits, aide in decision-making, automate tasks and ultimately save time and resources.
By delivering a model with increased accuracy of forecasted home-game attendance, we were able to arm our clients with vital information that will be fed into a dynamic ticket pricing model to increase profits.
