CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) announced it has expanded its global network of Innovation Centers with the launch of the first of its kind in the DC area. The facility is a dedicated space that fosters collaborative design thinking sessions to develop creative solutions, in partnership with federal agencies, to overcome challenges to mission success.
“Government is facing a new world: new technology and new expectations,” said CGI Federal President Tim Hurlebaus. “We are pivoting with our customers to help them prepare, transforming from the old ways of citizen engagement—including old technology, linear thinking and constraint-based decision making—to new ways. The Innovation Center is a place to explore the art of the possible, a place where we walk this journey with federal agencies to help our clients identify new approaches that adapt to changing surroundings and an evolving culture.”
By virtue of its 40-plus years of service to the federal government, CGI has a deep understanding of the continually evolving challenges agencies face due to ever-changing user expectations, budget constraints and regulatory requirements. In that time, CGI has partnered with agencies to develop innovative solutions for some of the federal government’s largest and most complex projects. A few examples include:
Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Central Data Exchange (CDX), an extensible and interoperable reporting platform that achieves EPA’s vision of electronic data exchange of more than 100 programs between EPA’s program offices and its external stakeholders, reducing regulatory report burden while improving quality and availability of data.
The Marine Corps’ Blount Island Command, where CGI Federal leverages passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags with Internet of Things (IoT) capability to enable real-time 24x7x365 inventorying of 100% of its warehouse assets, allowing the Command to know exactly what boxes are in specific containers and what containers and vehicles are on specific ships.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) CONNECT Empowering Opioid Exchange pilot program, which links federally-managed patient records with existing state-to-state prescription data records using existing HHS’ Federal Health Architecture (FHA) CONNECT open source software to help identify possible use and misuse of prescription drugs.
The Innovation Center is specifically designed to advance these types of creative solutions to federal challenges through interactive sessions that keep users, civil servants and technology at the center of practical innovation. The state-of-the-art facility acts as the backbone for workshop process and outcomes. Clients and partners use immersive video walls, touch tables and interactive kiosks to explore today’s technology in new ways and support innovation in action. The breakout conference rooms throughout the facility can be constructed to host both small and large teams. CGI’s workshop facilitators, technical subject matter experts and professionals support this innovation with an intimate understanding of the federal space.
