We recognize our responsibility to improve our relationship with the environment. Across our operations, global environmental objectives, including our commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030, are reinforced by local goals and initiatives. Aligned to these goals, we encourage our professionals to take an active role in combating the climate crisis.
No Planet B is a volunteering initiative in our UK operations that welcomes open discussion and suggestions from our professionals on how we can be more sustainable as a business. The No Planet B working group brings together professionals with a particular passion for environmental sustainability. The initiative is led by volunteers who collaborate with our facilities, communications and climate advisory teams on activities that support our broader net-zero ambitions.
Taking concrete actions to reduce waste
No Planet B consists of several groups that work year-round to promote sustainability through different activities. These working groups focus on key areas such as transportation and facilities, and sustainability solutions for our clients.
One group is focused dedicatedly on waste management. This includes reducing our waste to landfill, recycling, eliminating plastics, and promoting recycling and reduction activities both at work and in our professionals’ personal lives.
In 2021, the group organized several initiatives, including the launch of a waste management podcast to celebrate Zero Waste Week and regular communications on best practices to reduce waste and recycle plastic. In the run-up to World Environment Day, our professionals participated in a week-long #CGICleanUp campaign that included multiple litter picking events. Our professionals were also encouraged to start conversations and take actions to reduce and eliminate plastic as part of the Plastic Free July challenge.
These initiatives have created a collective environmental approach that has resulted in a number of measurable benefits including:
- Reducing waste to landfill to 22% by increasing recycling and changing waste contractors (Pre-pandemic data)
- Making office kitchens single-use plastic-free
- Reducing plastics by 75% from our cleaning service line, by ensuring all cleaning products use refillable bottles
