The counties of Pirkanmaa and North Savo in Finland were looking for a unified solution to consolidate the patient information systems used across primary healthcare and specialized medical care in their regions. They needed an easier way to process patient data, especially for professionals moving between clinics. We secured the bid with CGI’s OMNI360 Share, a patient information system that streamlines health services delivery, simplifies the daily work of professionals, and delivers significant financial savings.

Developing the solution

The county of Pirkanmaa employs 19,000 healthcare professionals and serves over 500,000 residents, while North Savo has a staff of 12,500 and nearly 250,000 residents. Both counties previously relied on a patchwork of different systems for their healthcare operations. To address this fragmentation, we developed the OMNI360 Share system in Finland through close collaboration with Finnish university hospitals and municipalities. Our team of 450 experts, including doctors, nurses, and social services professionals, played a key role in shaping the solution. Today, CGI OMNI360 not only supports professionals and residents in Pirkanmaa and North Savo but also extends its benefits to regions such as Southwest Finland.

The future of healthcare in the region

"Pirkanmaa is Finland's largest wellbeing services county and, like North Savo, is also home to a university hospital. As such, both regions require systems that are exceptionally stable and reliable under all conditions,” explains Kimmo Alaniska, Director of OMNI360 Share Services. “CGI has demonstrated its ability to best meet stringent requirements effectively. The ongoing system consolidation will also generate considerable savings for the well-being services counties."

"In the future, all patient data will be accessible through a single, regionally integrated system. This will enhance the service experience for residents, streamline the daily work of healthcare professionals, and reduce the risk of human error,” says Alaniska. “The reform also lays a strong foundation for the broader application of artificial intelligence in healthcare."
