Kai began his career in fossil fuel industries but his passion for sustainability, in particular the energy transition, led him to his current focus on digitalization in the energy sector. Specifically, he looks at how to manage data (for example, data originating from smart metering or smart assets) and how to use data to make decisions that facilitate the energy transition.
Kai’s experience spans several areas of the energy and utilities value chain, including distribution/transmission (gas and electricity) grids, energy retail/supply and central market facilitation of the energy retail markets. He has worked on or delivered a wide variety of projects, such as energy datahubs, renewables, smart metering and electric mobility. He also delivers strategic consultancy studies in the energy sector.
He is future-looking in his approach and considers, for example, the impact on the energy transition of developments such as the evolution of hydrogen markets and storage technology and flexibility (on the low voltage grid)—from a holistic, systems integration perspective.
Kai is an active member of several energy-related international expert and innovation steering groups in CGI and he represents CGI at Eurelectric and Flux50 (Flemish smart energy innovation cluster) work groups and initiatives.
